​As a social worker employed in the areas of child safety and foster care I witnessed first-hand the daily challenges that came with caring for a child with special needs or behavioural issues.

My name is Jessica McIlveen from Kid’s Yoga Therapy and I am here to revolutionise the  way we heal and transform the minds and lives of children and teens, particularly those with special needs or those affected by trauma. 

When I started to suffer from anxiety and panic attacks well into my adult life, I went in search of a solution because family and friends couldn’t help me. I was sick of feeling like I was having a heart attack each time so I decided to commit to daily yoga and meditation.

This became my ‘magic’ cure as it quickly taught me how to calm myself and master my own mind. I started to think if only I’d had these tools when I was a child!
Then it hit me! 

Why not combine all the things I’m most passionate about!!! 

Neuroscience, trauma, child development, yoga and meditation.  It made so much sense.

I’d worked for so long with children struggling with underdeveloped motor skills, a lack of confidence, poor social skills, and regular meltdowns. They found it hard to identify their emotions because traditional therapies did not take into account the mind/body connection.

So I studied yoga and meditation for children and introduced these practices into my healing work. Not only did the children begin to thrive but the parents and caregivers finally understood how to help them feel better.

It brings me so much joy to watch a child transform from being anxious and angry to calm and well-regulated after I work with them, and what's even better is they love it!

It is so important for a child to have body awareness because when they have complex needs the easiest way for them to deal with it is to disconnect from their bodies. When the brain and the nervous system don’t work together properly this is when we see problems.
